A multivehicle crash in a suburb of Chicago left three people dead and at least 11 others injured, Sunday.
The 11-vehicle crash happened at the intersection of 95th Street and Cicero Avenue when a pickup truck traveling westbound between 80 and 100 miles per hour speed barrelled through the red light at Cicero Avenue and hit several vehicles at about 4:27 p.m.
"It one of those things out of a movie where you see it happening and there's nothing you can do to stop it. When he hit the cars, he probably flipped over three of them," Olga Little, who witnessed the crash told abc7.
According to the police, two victims were hospitalized and were in critical condition, one was in non-critical condition and eight others were treated for minor injuries. The driver of the pickup truck and two other people died in the crash.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said two women and a man were among those killed. Their identities were not immediately known, officials said, reports NBC Chicago.
Police were investigating claims that someone approached the pickup driver's vehicle at 95th Street and Western Avenue that led him to speed away, reports Chicago Sun Times.
"We believe that there was an encounter with someone in traffic at 95th and Western Avenue. That individual attempted to make contact with that vehicle and that individual left the area at that time. We believe that vehicle was involved in another crash at 95th and Keeler," said Randy Palmer of the Oak Lawn Police Department.
