JaMarcus Russell, considered one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history, is reportedly working out on Friday for the Chicago Bears. Russell is one of three quarterbacks auditioning for the Bears, ESPN reports.
Russell has reportedly lost 50 pounds this year, bringing his weight back down to the 265 pounds he weighed when the Oakland Raiders drafted him in 2007 with the No. 1 pick. His campaign to get back into football shape began in earnest in the last couple months, and the Bears apparently think it's worth a shot to look at him.
Chicago already has three quarterbacks on its roster but, if Russell impresses on Friday, he has the opportunity to at least receive a training camp invite to compete with backups Josh McCown and Matt Blanchard.
Russell is reportedly interested in signing with a team that would allow him to learn under a veteran quarterback, according to the NFL Network. If he doesn't find a job in the NFL soon, he'll likely pursue options with a Canadian Football League team.
Former NFL and CFL quarterback Jeff Garcia has been working out with Russell in an attempt to prevent the 27-year-old from going down in NFL history as one of the biggest busts. Oakland released Russell in May 2009 after three unproductive seasons.
