Forward Kenneth Faried has reached a five-year extension with the Denver Nuggets worth $60 million, Yahoo! Sports reported. Members of the 2011 NBA draft class, such as Faried, are eligible for contract extensions until Oct. 31.
The 24-year-old forward is guaranteed $52 million over the life of the deal due to a partial guarantee in the fifth year. Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly and Faried's agent, Thad Foucher of Wasserman Media, began discussing an extension in the past week before coming to an agreement on Sunday night.
Faried was drafted 22nd overall out of mid-major Morehead State. Despite his lack of size at 6-foot-8, Faried has transformed himself into an effective high energy post player.
Faried impressed with his athletic play for the gold-winning U.S. team during the 2014 FIBA World Cup of Basketball. He averaged 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds last season.
