A French man was accidentally killed by his wife as she rushed to rescue him after his car tumbled off the road, The Independent reported on Sunday.
The 54-year-old man and 16-year-old daughter crashed when their vehicle came off the road in Carville, a town in northern France. The family has not been identified.
The car rolled over several times after hitting a sharp bend before finally coming to a stop in a ditch. Both father and daughter were able to escape from the car uninjured and the man called his wife to ask for assistance.
But the 44-year-old wife lost control of her car at the same sharp corner while rushing to the scene. Her vehicle fell off the road and barreled towards her husband, crushing and killing him instantly, Malaysian news website Astro Awani reported.
The daughter and wife were taken to a hospital and treated for injuries but are expected to fully recover.
France's dangerous roads are no mystery, and the country even appeared on the top 10 most dangerous roads list in 2002. Since then, it has enacted stricter speed limits and new penalties for drinking and driving to cut its vehicular death rate. The French government also installed 400 new speed cameras and got rid of many signs that told drivers where existing cameras are.
France's driving fatality rate has dropped by 38 percent in the last four years. Despite winding roads, it is now one of Europe's safest countries to drive in, according to The Mirror.
