San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh reportedly would "love" to coach the Oakland Raiders. As whispers continue about friction between Harbaugh and some players in the locker room, Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported Harbaugh will not be back next season.
Where there's smoke there's fire, and the numerous reports surfacing about Harbaugh makes it seem his tenure in San Francisco is coming to an end. Glazer reported Sunday things are bad enough in the locker room that Harbaugh wouldn't be back with the team next season, even if they won the Super Bowl.
Per Fox Sports:
"According to Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer, Harbaugh will not be back with the 49ers next season 'even if they hoist the Lombardi.' Glazer originally reported the locker room tension prior to the 49ers' Week 1 win over the Cowboys."
Mike Florio of Pro Football talk also believes Harbaugh will be coaching another team next season.
"One league source tells PFT that Harbaugh would 'love' to return to the Raiders, where his non-playing career began in 2002 and 2003 as the team's quarterbacks coach," Florio wrote Sunday.
49ers CEO Jed York tweeted his support for Harbaugh on Saturday, but there've been reports in the past that Harbaugh and the front office don't get along either. Florio reported in February the 49ers almost traded Harbaugh to the Cleveland Browns for two third-round draft picks, but Harbaugh's wife didn't want to leave the Bay Area.
Glazer and Florio's reports followed one from ESPN that indicated there are some players in the locker room who don't trust Harbaugh. The distrust began, according to ESPN, with Harbaugh's handling of former 49ers quarterback Alex Smith, whom Harbaugh supposedly lied to about trying to sign Peyton Manning in 2012.
Harbaugh dismissed the report, and some players - Alex Boone and Colin Kaepernick - have since come to their coach's defense.
