Delaware police arrested a mother after her 4-year-old daughter shared heroin with her friends at day care assuming it was candy.
Ashley Tull, 30, was charged with maintaining a drug property and with three counts of child endangerment. Authorities at the Hickory Tree Child Care Center in Sebyville noticed the children carrying the heroin packets and informed police and emergency medical responders, reports Fox News.
The child brought the heroin packets into the childcare "in a backpack that her mother gave her after hers had become ruined by the family pet sometime through the night," Delaware State Police said, in a statement. Police recovered 249 packets of heroin from the backpack.
"None of the packets were opened by any of the kids," Master Cpl. Gary E. Fournier said Monday night, reports USA Today.
A family pet messed with the girl's regular backpack Sunday night and Tull sent her to school with a different one that she found around the house, according to the Examiner.
Police stated that "the white powdery substance, which was still enclosed in the bags, was removed by the teachers and immediately taken to the Selbyville Police Department where it was determined to be heroin."
Children who had the heroin packets were taken to hospitals as a precaution. None of the children reported any kind of health problems because of the heroin packets.
Tull is in custody and a $6,000 bond has been set for her. Tull has two other chidlren, a nine-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl that lived with her before this incident. She was given a "no-contact" order for the kids and they have been sent to their relatives.
