Deana Carter Lost ‘Nashville’ Role to Connie Britton

Deana Carter has a busy and rewarding music career, but she has some acting credits and hoped to rev up her acting career with a starring role on "Nashville."

The "Strawberry Wine" singer reveals she auditioned for a coveted role that was not too far from her real life as a country star - but a more seasoned actress won the part.

"I auditioned for Rayna," she admits to Nashville's Tennessean, referring to the part of Rayna James, the role now played by Connie Britton. "I know quite a few people did. I think Connie [Britton] does a great job. And I love the show, I'm a huge fan.," reports Hollywood.com.

Carter's acting credits include the films "Blood Games" and "The Badge" and the television series "Strong Medicine" and "King of the Hill," according to IMDB.

Carter's albums have accounted for 14 singles, including three which reached No. 1 on the Billboard country charts: "Strawberry Wine", "We Danced Anyway" and "How Do I Get There."

Even though she missed out on the acting gig with "Nashville," Carter still managed to have a connection to the hit show. The 48-year-old singer co-wrote a song, "I Know How to Love You Now," with Chip Esten, who plays Deacon Claybourne. The song was sung live by Esten during the Season 3 premiere, reports The Boot. Carter was on set to sing the song with Esten.

The songstress recently released her latest album, "Southern Way of Life."

"Most of these songs mimic my own life," she explains. "Instinctively autobiographical, the project weaves through many levels of emotions and situations, culminating with the title track that will make any Southern smile."
