Pizza Drone: Domino's In U.K. Suggests DomiCopter Delivery (Video)

Imagine opening your door after ordering some Domino’s and there, in your doorway, hovers a machine carrying your pizza. Well, a Domino’s franchise in the United Kingdom is suggesting this could be a possibility, according to CNN Money.

The franchise put a video on YouTube Monday showing a “DomiCopter” carrying two Domino’s pizzas kept warm in Heatwave bags.

“[The idea is] the brainchild of our independent master franchise company in the U.K.”, said a spokesman for the pizza company.

The U.K. franchise was aided by T and Biscuits—a company that specializes in digital media—and the drone company AeroSight.

T and Biscuits put the video on their website along with a little blurb explaining the project:

The video has had 17,000+ views in just under 12 hours and our emails have been going mad with inquiries as to when people may be getting their food delivered by the DomiCopter. You will have to just wait and see…. and then wait.

According to a press release from Domino’s U.K., the DomiCopter is a new revolutionary way to make deliveries. The release also mentioned that a "Domino's Flight Academy is also rumored to be in the pipeline should the DomiCopter delivery service take off."

The idea isn’t really a new concept and in the case of the U.K. franchise is most likely a way to get publicity. In 2012 the TacoCopter app generated some buzz. The app would have the power to send out a drone that delivers tacos. However, under United States federal law unmanned drones cannot be used for commercial purposes. Just like the idea was a bust in the U.S., there’s a very big chance it won’t work in the United Kingdom.
