The core team of Avengers may assemble for the last time in the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Marvel may bench Captain America, Thor and possibly Black Widow in the planned "Avengers 3" movie.
Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth will have two movies left on their Marvel contracts after the "Avengers" sequel premieres next May. The studio already announced a third "Captain America" film, but instead of Evans finishing his contract in a third "Avengers" film, Marvel may want to keep him for another project down the road, according to Badass Digest.
Speculation on Marvel's Phase 3 and what films it will incorporate have run rampant. Rumors have included splitting "Avengers 3" into two movies and a super movie with the "Avengers" and "Guardians of the Galaxy" characters all coming together.
An "Avengers" movie without Captain America and Thor would most likely focus on Marvel's secondary characters, and Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man (the actor has already signed on for the third installment). "Avengers: Age of Ultron" will introduce superheroes Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), and Marvel will release solo films for Ant-Man and Doctor Strange over the next two years. Anthony Mackie's Falcon, who made his debut in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," could also appear in the "Avengers 3" film.
