‘The Purge 3’ in Development with Director James DeMonaco

Hollywood writer and director James DeMonaco is thinking of ways to scare moviegoers with a third installment of "The Purge." According to Deadline, "The Purge 3" is already in development by Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions and Platinum Dunes.

DeMonaco will write the script and is also in talks to direct the movie. Sebastien Lemercier, Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have already signed on to produce.

"I never imagined that 'The Purge' would become the phenomenon it has become," DeMonaco told Deadline. "And I am thrilled to continue my collaboration with Blumhouse, Sebastien Lemercier, Platinum Dunes and the great team at Universal in building 'The Purge' into a worldwide franchise."

The first two films, "The Purge" and "The Purge: Anarchy," were huge successes at the box office. Both films had a combined budget of $12 million with the first movie raking in $91 million worldwide and the sequel grossing nearly $110 million.

With numbers like that, it's no wonder why the studios and DeMonaco are eager to do a third film. So far no further details about "The Purge 3" have been released. The first movie followed a security system salesman and his family as they tried to survive the Purge - a time when people are allowed to commit crime and murder and not get in trouble with the law.

The sequel was about a couple driving through Los Angeles when their car runs out of gas right as the purge starts.
