Thomas Eric Duncan reportedly apologized to his fiancée, Louise Troh, on the day he received his diagnosis, according to the Washington Post. Saymendy Lloyd, a family friend, said that Duncan told Troh that had he known he was infected, he would have "preferred to stay in Liberia and died than bring this to you."
Lloyd also said that Duncan told Troh, "I'm so sorry all of this is happening. . . . I would not put the love of my life in danger."
Duncan's mother, who lives in North Carolina, had not seen her son in 12 years. She was able to watch her son via laptop monitor on Monday as he slept. Duncan's now 19-year-old son had not seen his father since he left Liberia when he was three years old, reported The Morning Call. Duncan's son tried to see him on Tuesday, but was not reunited with his father before Duncan's death.
Anderson Cooper spoke to CNN correspondent Nima Elbagir, who said Duncan may not have known he had been exposed to Ebola when he left Liberia on Sept. 19. The pregnant teen that Duncan helped - "patient zero" - collapsed a few days before Duncan traveled, but according to Elbagir, it took 11 days from that incident for the neighborhood to be identified and isolated as a source of Ebola.
