More than half of Apple iPhone and iPad users have not updated their devices to iOS8 even after 20 days of its launch.
Apple - the renowned smartphone, tablet and PC brand - has been facing problems with its latest iOS8 software for a long time. But, the company tried to address the pressing issues within days of discovery of the problem. However, this did not convince the users as more than half of Apple consumers have still not downloaded iOS8. According to Apple's own distribution page, only 47 percent of iPhone and iPad users have updated their devices to the latest software.
Apple released the new mobile computing software on September 17. The initial response to iOS8 seemed convincing, but the adoption rate significantly dropped to almost stagnant in the last two weeks. In less than a week's time, the iOS8 software was found on 46 percent iDevices and it gained just one percent since then.
In comparison to last year's iOS 7, iOS8 is only half way there. According to Mashable, iOS7 powered nearly 70 percent of Apple devices around the same time period last year. The reason behind the slow adoption of iOS 8 remains unknown, but the recent debacles noted with the latest software appeared to have played a major role.
Initially, Apple demanded its users to have at least 5GB free space on the limited-storage iPhones and iPads. Several iPhone users reported malfunctioning Touch ID and wireless network after updating the software to iOS 8.0.1, which was expected to fix various bugs in iOS8. The Cupertino tech giant was forced to pull the update and apologized to its users for the blunder. The company quickly worked on a fix and released iOS 8.0.2 to fix all the errors.
Apple may have failed to compete against its own previous versions of the software, but it has significant lead over Google's Android OS. While the iOS8 stands at 47 percent in 20 days, Google's latest Android version KitKat powers only about 25 percent of the devices in a long span of over 10 months.
