Maybe the Florida Gators do it a little differently down there, but aren't you supposed to fight your opponent and not your teammate?
That wasn't the case Monday night when two Gators players got into a physical altercation at the stadium that had to be broken up by University of Florida police, ESPN reported.
Sophomore quarterback Skyler Mornhinweg and true freshman defensive lineman Gerald Willis III traded blows outside of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium before being separated by campus police shortly after 7 p.m.
When two teammates fight, one would assume the matter was quite serious. But this brawl ended up to be a matter of missing cleats. Mornhinweg explained to police that he couldn't find his cleats before they were located by team staff in Willis' locker. According to a police report, the QB sustained "small lacerations on his lower lip," and was treated at Shands emergency room.
"Upon our arrival, the individuals had already been separated," said Maj. Brad Barber, a university police spokesman. "After reviewing with both individuals involved, they each filled out a complaint withdrawal, and no charges were filed."
The quarterback is the son of New York Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. Skyler was No. 3 on the Gators' depth chart last season before starting the team's final three games in place for injured Jeff Driskel and backup Tyler Murphy.
"It was a misunderstanding between two teammates," UF spokesman Steve McClain said. "Coach [Will] Muschamp has not announced any discipline decisions at this time."
Mornhinweg is likely Florida's No. 2 quarterback after true freshman Treon Harris was suspended while under investigation on sexual assault accusations. Barber has said there are currently no updates in Harris' case.
Driskel, Florida's starter, has struggled this season, completing only 54% of his passes while throwing five touchdowns against six interceptions.
Florida (3-1) hosts LSU (4-2) on Saturday.
