A California man duped young girls and an Iowa school into believing he starred in the "Twilight" saga. Federal authorities then arrested the 33-year-old on charges including child pornography.
David LaVera passed himself off as Kiowa Gordon, the 24-year-old actor who played Embry Call in the 'Twilight' movies, for three weeks in an Iowa town. Police arrested and charged him with "enticing a minor under 16 for a sexual purpose" and for carrying a knife with a blade longer than 8 inches, according to WQAD 8.
U.S. Marshals took LaVera into custody on Oct. 6. A grand jury indicted him on charges of "knowingly producing child pornography or sexual exploitation of a minor, and knowingly possessing child pornography," according to WQAD 8.
LaVera allegedly convinced one Iowa girl to take a ride in his car and another girl to sneak out of her home after her parents went to sleep. The "Twilight" poser also convinced the local Berg Elementary and Middle School to invite him to perform stunts at an assembly. He also attended a school-sponsored pool party for eighth graders, according to one of his alleged victims.
The real Kiowa Gordon currently stars on SundanceTV's "The Red Road." He's also starring in the film "Heat Wave" with his "Twilight" co-star Bronson Pelletier. Russ Russo wrote and directed the movie, partially funded by Kickstarter. It will premiere on Dec. 2.
