Denver Broncos NEWS: Brett Favre Happy It’s Peyton Manning Closing In On His Touchdown Record

Ex-NFL star Brett Favre would be happy to see Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning break his record for most touchdown passes. Manning is just six touchdowns away from breaking Favre's record of 508, and he's expected to break it in another one or two games.

Favre has no problem if it's Manning who breaks one of his records.

"I'm glad it's Peyton that's doing it," Favre told the Associated Press in a phone interview. "I think a lot of Peyton. I know him well. I know his family well. His dad was one of my idols. ... It's amazing what he's done - but then again, it's not. I mean that with all due respect, because of his vigilance and determination. He just has the drive to excellence that has made him special. I'm not surprised by anything he does."

Manning has 503 career touchdowns heading into Sunday's game against the New York Jets. He already has 12 touchdowns this year, and with 12 regular season games left, he'll likely shatter the record before the season ends. According to ESPN, Manning could surpass the 600 touchdown mark if he plays in another 34 games while still averaging 2.9 touchdowns per game.

As for Favre, the record he's proudest of is his 297 regular season starts.

"I'm proud that I threw for 508 touchdowns, but I'm most proud of my consecutive games streak," he said. "None of those other records are possible unless you play a long time. And I know Peyton missed a year. Aside from that year, he's played just like I did. I mean, he's been out there over and over and over again. And that's the only way you amass the numbers that he has."
