Former IRS official Lois Lerner was filmed seeking refuge in a neighbor's house after a journalist tried to confront her about her role in targeting conservative groups while she walked her two dogs in her upscale Bethesda, Maryland, neighborhood, Breitbart reported. Lerner has been accused of abusing her agency's authority to unfairly and illegally target conservative leaning and Tea Party not-for-profit groups in an attempt to withhold their tax-exempt status.
Journalist Jason Mattera, publisher of the Daily Surge, filmed the confrontation on Sep. 29, ambushing the disgraced ex-IRS director as she attempted to barge into the home of a nearby neighbor, who refused to let her in, the Daily Caller reported. The video, which debuted Monday night on "Hannity," is almost a "perfect proxy" for Lerner's actions targeting innocent conservative and Tea Party groups, Mattera said.
"A chance to apologize, Lerner?" Mattera asks in the video as Lerner rushes across a neighbor's yard and begins to knock the front door. "You didn't hesitate to target conservatives, but you're hesitating to speak. Why?"
After knocking for a few moments, Lerner appears to try to push her way in once the door opens a crack. An elderly woman peeks out, but refuses to let her in since she recently had surgery
"I've had surgery, can you wait?" the neighbor who answered the door tells Lerner.
"You don't feel bad that you were using the government as a weapon to crush political dissent?" Mattera presses on.
"Could you call the police?" Lerner begs the woman while pounding on the door. "Please let me in. These guys are with the press and they're not leaving me alone. I only need to come in for a second. Can I go in the garage?"
"You don't like being targeted," Mattera continues, adding "It doesn't feel good, huh?"
Moments later the woman's husband shows up to confront Lerner and Mattera, according to the Washington Times.
"What are you doing here?" the elderly woman's husband asks from behind as he approaches his front door.
"She's trying to get in your house, she doesn't want to answer questions," Mattera explains.
"I don't want her in the house," the man says. "Out. Out!"
"I know you don't," Lerner says to the man before she gives him a quick pat on the shoulder and rushes back down the street.
Before the video ends, Lerner is seen walking up another neighbor's driveway when Mattera asks, "Are we going to try another house?"
Since the IRS scandal broke out, Lerner has been able to largely avoid the media, only giving an interview to Politico last month to claim her innocence.
Mattera, author of the new book "Crapitalism: Liberals Who Make Millions Swiping Your Tax Dollars", said this incident reveals Lerner's complete lack of character.
"She keeps badgering an innocent woman with zero regard for her wishes," Mattera said. "It's an incredible crystallization of Lerner's character or lack thereof."
"If Lerner is willing to barge into a person's home, how much more so is she willing to barge into a conservative's IRS records to inflict her political will?" he concluded.
