Alison Krauss' Imposter Arrested Again in New Mexico

So, if you're thinking about posing as bluegrass superstar Alison Krauss, you might want to avoid going to New Mexico. A woman who has been accused of posing as Krauss in order to scam men out of money has been arrested - again. This time, in The Land Of Enchantment.

Police in Albuquerque, N.M., arrested 53-year-old Peggy Sue Evers after tracking her to a motel on Oct. 1, according to Taste of Country. KRQE reports that Evers had been on the run since failing to show up at a probation hearing in Arkansas, where she was sentenced to probation for scamming 75-year-old Don Fulton out of his life savings.

"I lost my wife back last June the 18th, and I was getting lonely and I was looking for some friendship," Fulton said, reports KRQE.

According to investigators, Fulton met Evers on a dating website after losing his wife the previous June. She convinced Fulton that she was the Grammy-winning musician by singing some of Krauss' hits for him," notes Taste of County.

Police say Evers told Fulton she was the famous country star, but she was going by a different name because she was in the witness protection program, according to KRQE

The two married shortly afterward.

A few months into their marriage, Evers is accused of draining Fulton's life savings, convincing him to sign over the deed to his house and filing a will for him, naming herself as his heir. She pleaded guilty in January and received eight years of probation. She was also ordered to pay more than $70,000 in restitution, reports Taste of Country.

Evers is currently being held without bond at the Metro Detention Center in Albuquerque. She will face extradition to Arkansas, where authorities will decide her punishment for breaking the terms of her probation.

Krauss is a multiple Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter specializing in country, bluegrass, folk and Americana music, reports Biography. She has earned more than 25 Grammy Awards over her extensive career, including six awards for her collaboration with former Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant, "Raising Sand" (2007).

"Paper Airplane," Krauss' seventh album with Union Station - and her first studio project with the band since 2004's "Lonely Runs Both Ways" - was released in 2011. The effort quickly earned acclaim, including a Grammy win for best bluegrass album and a nomination (best country duo/group performance) for the single "I Just Come Here For The Music," featuring vocals by both Krauss and famed country singer-songwriter Don Williams.
