Plastc Can Hold Your Credit Cards and Show Your Balance

A new device could soon replace wallets as the tool for carrying all of your debit and credit cards.

This new form of card-tech, called Plastc, comes in the form of a credit card that is 0.8 millimeters thick and can store the information of up to 20 cards, according to The Verge. An E-ink touchscreen is provided for users to swipe their cards and barcodes, as is NFC for making transactions without making any contact.

The introduction of Plastc follows almost a year after the unveiling of Coin, a similar form of technology aimed at holding important bankcards. The device would use Bluetooth to let users know if their device was stolen or lost, and it would let users swipe it in any traditional card reader.

Plastc comes with some of the same security features found in Coin, such as a PIN code that users need to unlock the device, as well as the limit of only being able to add cards with the user's name on them, The Verge reported.

Users will also be given a "remote wipe" mode, which they can use to wipe their card if they lose it. They will also be able to check their card balances before they pay by showing them on the E-ink screen.

Plastc comes with a magnetic strip on the back for owners to use in the U.S., as well as a chip on the front for use in other developed countries, Extremetech. The gadget has a battery life of 30 days and can be charged wirelessly on an included charging plate.

Those looking for a smaller case for their bankcards can pre-order the $155 Plastc now, but they will have to wait until next summer to receive them.
