"Jane the Virgin" is the CW's new series that details the life of Jane Villaneuva, a young, religious Latina woman who vows to save her virginity until she is married - but she may not have a choice in the matter.
During a routine checkup at the doctor, Jane is accidentally artificially inseminated. I know, crazy right? It gets better. The mixed up sample came from Rafael, a married man and hotel owner, who had preserved his goods with hopes to inseminate his wife - he cannot father a child because of a recent battle with cancer.
Wait, are you ready for this? Rafael is also Jane's former high school crush. After many years of not seeing one another, Rafael is now the biological father of Jane's unborn baby. But that's not all. Jane has a boyfriend, and I'm sure he won't be too thrilled to find out she's carrying someone else's child, especially when they have not been intimate with one another.
Based on a Venezuelan soap-opera titled "Juana La Virgen," the show will follow the 23-year-old Latina as she tries to sort through inevitable obstacles that are thrown in her direction. Gina Rodriguez, who stars as Jane, has played a few parts in her day, but her role as the focal point of "Jane" is worth seeing. She's sassy, smart and ambitious, and the plot twists will keep you guessing until the very last episode. Keep your eye on Rodriguez - she will be the breakout star of this fall season.
