With Samsung and Apple Inc. both on the verge of unveiling new updates to their most popular Galaxy and iPhone lineups, any and all rumors about new smartphones that could shake up the market are being taken very seriously. The newest among such rumors came Wednesday with the possible first leak of the HTC One Mini.
The HTC One, the company's flagship smartphone appears to have a new model out in the world somewhere. An Estonian site, forte.delfi.ee, claims to have a version of the HTC One Mini. The phone, seen in the leaked pictures as being 4.3-inches, does seem to have the right look to be the HTC One Mini, however, nothing is clear.
According to the Endgadget, the website claims the specifications for the phone seem about right too. It reportedly offers a smaller 720p display, a dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage and a 4-megapixel shooter that comes complete with UltraPixel technology. The same source claims the new phone will have a release date of sometime in August for a price of about $500.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway from this supposed leak is what passes for "mini" these days. A 4.3-inch screen is still a very large phone. In fact, it is still bigger than the iPhone 5, Apple's new larger model of the smartphone. The Samsung Galaxy S4 recently announced a miniaturized version that was the same size as this reported HTC One Mini. It would appear that smartphones are becoming bigger and bigger these days. The regular HTC One on the market now boasts a whopping 5-inch display.
It is still too early to tell whether or not the Estonian site actually does have its hands on an HTC One Mini. HTC did announce recently it would be making a Google Edition of their standard phone. Perhaps an actual announcement of the HTC One Mini will come along with the release of the new Google Edition.
