Oklahoma City Shooting And Hostage Scene Leaves One Dead, Two Officers Recovering

A bizarre, possible hostage situation left one woman dead and several suspects and officers with gunshot wounds near a motel in Oklahoma City, KFor reported on Wednesday.

A female that was allegedly being held against her will at the Plaza Inn called 911 for assistance around 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday. She told police she was being held hostage and her captors were trying to kill her.

When police arrived at the scene, the people inside the hotel room started open firing at the officers. An witness says three people ran out of the room after police officers were shot. Four officers in total were involved in the incident, according to KOCO.

Sgt. Grant Brooks and Sgt. Cody Koelsch were both shot at the scene. Sgt. Clint Music tried to fire back in retaliation. Brooks and Koelsche are believed to be in stable condition.

Shane Leon Rhea, 39, reportedly fled the room holding a female hostage that has not been identified. The two merged onto northbound lanes on Interstate 35 and Rhea tried to hijack another car, police said. Rhea then pointed a gun at the female hostage's head and shot, killing her at the scene. An Oklahoma City police officer then shot Rhea.

Three people inside the Plaza Inn hotel room were arrested and another suspect was shot during the exchange.

Rhea was arrested on suspicion of first - degree murder, kidnapping, shooting with intent to kill, assault and battery with a deadly weapon. Theft and domestic violence charges are also on Rhea's arrest record. He just got home from a stint at an Oklahoma prison in June.

An investigation into whether kidnapping did occur is ongoing.
