With the madness of New York ComicCon (NYCC) upon us once again, I thought it would be interesting for all three of the people providing HNGN with coverage for the event to give their thoughts on the event itself, and what celebs, panels and screenings they are most looking forward to checking out.
Catherine will be at NYCC on Friday, I (Jerry Bonner) will be there on Saturday, and Zulai will be rounding out our coverage on Sunday.
It's that time of year again. The nerds are back in town, and they're taking New York City by storm.
This year's ComicCon is expected to be bigger and better than ever before. With celebrities like Bill Nye, Lauren Cohan, Daniel Portman and others set to show up at the big event, this four-day celebration of all things geek has transitioned straight from the fringes and into the mainstream. Being a "nerd" is now cool.
In the past, New York ComicCon, hosted at the Javits Center, has started out slowly. While it had some celebrities and big names, it didn't attract the following like it does today. This year, though, should be one for the recordbooks. You can expect to see big-name authors, television stars and costumes that will make your jaw drop. You'll see representatives from Marvel, but you'll also see the cast from "The Walking Dead," and we'll be covering every second.

First and foremost, both Ralph Macchio and William Zabka from "The Karate Kid" are signing on Saturday. How, in the name of all that is holy, is there NOT an accompanying "30th Anniversary of 'The Karate Kid'" panel on Saturday? It's on Sunday when I won't be there. I NEED to see a live reenactment of the infamous Crane Kick! Ah well, such is life...
Beyond that, "The Death of Superman Lives" screening on Thursday would certainly be something I'd love to see because I just can't get enough of the long-haired Nick Cage in those freaky Superman suits. Also on Thursday, is the "Mad About MAD (Magazine)" panel and there's also a panel with Adam West talking about the original Batman series now that it is finally coming out on DVD and Blu-ray.
Friday's intriguing panels and screenings for me are the "Adult Swim" panel, "Gaming Geek Turned Author," and "Dark Horse and Sega Present: 35 Years of Alien."
Saturday has "Design a Board Game with the Pixel Academy," "The Complete Graphic Novel with Brian Haberlin: From Idea to Market," "Cartoon Network Presents: Screening and Halloween Partaaayy," and "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies - An Unofficial Look!"
And to round out Sunday (since I won't be there for the aforementioned "Karate Kid" panel) there's "Custom Toymaking 101," "Sesame Street & Pop Culture: 45 Years of Spoofs on the 'Street'," and "Cary Elwes, Author of As You Wish, Discusses the Making of The Princess Bride."

Now if I were a first-time goer spending the entire weekend at the convention, I would pick one booth, one panel and one celebrity personality to drop everything to see and let myself roam free for the rest of the event. Yes, you can go see the celebrity-filled panels, but you'll likely have to wait in long lines to catch them so keep that in mind when choosing events.
That said, I would definitely check out DC Entertainment: Women of DC Entertainment panel on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 6:15 p.m. in 1A06. I don't necessarily prefer DC over Marvel, but I have to say DC has piqued my curiosity regarding how they will bring characters like Wonder Woman and Supergirl to life. I'd also enjoy hearing how the writers come up with the storylines for female characters overall.
Another panel I would try to catch is the World of Capcom panel on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 4:15 p.m. also in 1A06. I have always been a fan of Capcom games, especially the "Street Fighter" titles and "Resident Evil" games. I would get the chills when I heard the Spanish infected say "cerebro" as they came towards me in "Resident Evil 4." Capcom says there will be surprises in store, so I wouldn't miss this if I had the chance to see it.
