'Wonder Woman' New 52 Writer Talks Diana Prince Mythology And Cultural Impact AT NYCC

New 52 writer Meredith Finch and artist David Finch are dishing details about their relaunch of DC’s “Wonder Woman” comics.

During an interview with Comic Book at NYCC 2014, the husband-and-wife creative duo explained what they look forward to in their first issue, “Wonder Woman #36”.

Meredith explained her New 52 storylines wouldn’t necessarily follow the mythology rooted in the series’ past.

“It's an interesting question because I think if you really focused on the mythology, she doesn't really follow traditional Greek mythology; there's been a lot of deviation, especially with what Brian Azzarello has done,” Meredith said. "If you're looking at superheroes being our mythology, she really has been such a role model for women, I think she's had perhaps the most powerful impact of any superhero on mainstream culture and what she stands for.”

Meredith also touched on why she disagrees with some fans feeling the New 52 of Wonder Woman doesn’t relate to her character in Justice League or Superman comics.

“The first thing I did when I got the job was to sit down and read all of Brian's run in its entirety,” she told Comic Book. “And earlier today, I got a question about which Wonder Woman stands out to me and I had to say that Brian's Wonder Woman is a fully developed character and it really does define who she is for me. I didn't feel that about his book; I feel like he did a very strong run and I feel like I have a very good starting point for me to move forward and fully develop.”
