USA striker Jozy Altidore is planning on leaving Sunderland. Altidore has spent 18 disappointing months with the U.K. club, scoring just one goal in 33 appearances.
Altidore is a favorite of USA manager Jurgen Klinsmann's national team and a regular starter. However, things have not gone as smoothly with Sunderland's Gus Poyet.
"I thought I've done everything I could this season to come in as fit as possible with the injury and try to make an impact when I've played," Altidore said. "But like I said this four years I want to be part of the national team. Jürgen makes his message very clear, nobody is different, so if it doesn't turn around then in January I'll be looking to start elsewhere and make sure that I'm in his plans."
Altidore was a hot commodity after scoring 38 goals in 67 league appearances for AZ Alkmaar in Holland. Should a transfer occur, it will be the second time Altidore has left the Premier League after unsuccessful stints.
