NHL: Jaromir Jagr Moves Into 6th Place On All-Time Scoring List

Forty two-year-old Jaromir Jagr entered the Philadelphia Flyers' zone down the right wing, spun quickly near the boards and flung a prayer of a shot that left wing Mike Cammalleri somehow redirected past goalie Steve Mason.

Twenty four years, seven teams, a three year stint in Russia and 1,756 points later, Jaro moved ahead of Hall of Famer Steve Yzerman into sole possession of 6th place on the NHL's all-time scoring list.

He added his 1,757th point on another assist shortly thereafter.

The current New Jersey Devils' right wing, Jaromir Jagr, entered the NHL via the 1990 draft as the fifth overall pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He would go on to play for the Penguins for 11 years, winning two consecutive Stanley Cups in 1991 and 1992 alongside Mario Lemieux.

Jagr would then go on to play for the Washington Capitals, the New York Rangers, Avangard Omsk of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League (a move that was supposed to mark the ending of his professional career), the Philadelphia Flyers, the Dallas Stars, the Boston Bruins and, eventually, the New Jersey Devils.

He has won the Art Ross Trophy as the league's leading scorer five times and the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL's Most Valuable Player once.

Jagr trails Marcel Dionne (731 goals, 1,771 points) by 14 points for fifth on the all-time list - a mark he will, barring injury, almost assuredly reach this season.

Jagr, who is in his 21st NHL season and second with the Devils, is also sixth on the all-time list with 705 goals, three behind Mike Gartner (708). His 1,052 assists rank eighth, 11 behind Yzerman.

He is tied with Doug Gilmour for 19th all-time in games played with 1,474, and needs only two more power-play goals to tie Yzerman for 15th place all-time with 202.

For purely nostalgic purposes, check out video of the very first goal, and point, of Jaro's career below:
