Beats Electronics may be providing great listening experiences with its headphones, but it has landed San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in trouble with the NFL.
The organization has fined Kaepernick $10,000 for wearing Beats headphones at a post-game press conference on Sunday, according to The Verge. The headphones are currently banned in the NFL, and the league recently signed a deal with Bose to make it their new headphones sponsor, which now means that headphones from other companies are not allowed to be shown on TV during interviews.
Reports about the ban started last week when the NFL said that the league, not Bose, has made the decision to ban other headphones.
"The NFL has longstanding policies that prohibit branded exposure on-field or during interviews unless authorized by the league," the organization said.
Kaepernick did not provide details on how the fine will be covered, The Verge reported.
"We'll let that be unanswered," he said.
Kaepernick has appeared in one of Beats's commercials, as he currently has an endorsement deal with the company. The NFL's decision may pose as a serious problem for Beats, as athletes have been helping the company become more popular.
The NFL doesn't allow players to wear headphones or other gear that hasn't been approved by the league for 90 minutes after the end of the game, Yahoo! Sports reported.
Another player that is expected to receive a fine for wearing Beats headphones is Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, who reportedly wore the headphones before his game on Monday night. Sherman is also a spokesman for Beats.
