Nick Cannon is concerned for Amanda Bynes' mental state.
In an interview with HuffPost Live on Wednesday, the "America's Got Talent" host expressed his concern for his former Nickelodeon co-star. Cannon said that Bynes, who he considers part of his "family," contacted him via text message a few weeks ago.
"She reached out to me maybe a few weeks ago via text and I tried to call her back but I couldn't get her," Cannon told HuffPost Live. "That's family to me and when you see those type of things happen, it's a process, it's a condition. If this was a person who was in a mental hospital, would you do the same thing? But just because she's someone that is a public figure, we feel like, 'Oh, it's fun to make [fun of her].' But no, this is someone who needs help, and rightly so, she was getting help and I'm pretty sure she'll continue to get help again."
Within the past two weeks, Bynes has reappeared in the tabloids for her erratic behavior. Last month, the former child star was arrested and charged with a DUI in Sherman Oaks, California.
Bynes' mother had a temporary conservatorship, which ended in September. In 2013, the actress was hospitalized on a 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold and underwent mental treatment.
"My heart goes out to her. I pray for her daily," Cannon concluded.
Last year, Cannon penned an emotional open letter to the actress on his personal website, which read:
"I say to my sister Amanda Bynes you're not alone. I'm here for you. I understand. I care and I appreciate you, because that's what family does and that's what family is for. I also extend this to anyone else in my life, past or present that may find themselves in hard times. I'm here! Call me! Because I truly believe, the hand you're helping up today may be the one you're reaching for tomorrow. So not to be all cheesy and over sentimental but I got to end this with the ingenious Wither's lyrics 'Lean on me when you're not strong and I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on. For it won't be long until I'll need somebody to lean on.'"
