Almost hidden in a recent report at Variety about Billy Crystal joining the Jim Henson Company's production of a movie called "Which Witch?" is a most interesting morsel of news, especially if you're a "Gen X'er" like myself.
At the end of the article they list several movies Henson Co. are currently working on, and those include "Fraggle Rock"; a sequel to 1982's "The Dark Crystal" (which has been rumored for some time); a movie based on the Emmet Otter character (which my wife's family will go nuts over because an annual viewing of "Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas" is a long-standing holiday tradition); and a sequel to 1986's "Labyrinth." This is the first I've heard of any kind of "Labyrinth" sequel. There were no other details revealed, but it's fascinating to know that it's in the works on some level.
It will also be interesting to see if both David Bowie (Jareth, the Goblin King) and Jennifer Connelly (Sarah) are asked to reprise their iconic roles in some way or another. Heck, Bowie's son Duncan Jones ("Moon" and the upcoming "World of Warcraft" movie) is an excellent director in his own right. Let Jones helm it with a script based on this truly well-developed fan theory/fiction, and you'd have a winner for sure.
Beyond that, it is fantastic to see that the gears are turning over at the Jim Henson Company, and that we'll start seeing more films from them. Their most recent film is the live action family comedy, "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day," which comes out this weekend and has garnered some decent reviews.
