Natalie Dormer and her director Francis Lawrence agreed only to shave half of the actress's head for her role as Cressida in the upcoming film, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1." The half shave still required daily buzz cuts.
"They shaved my head every day, a clean shave," Dormer told E! News. "It was cold. I don't know if you guys remember the winter, but it was cold! Those polar vortexes! I was wearing my beanie a lot."
Her hair has begun to grow back, leaving the left side of her head feeling "a bit fluffy." Dormer originally planned to shave her entire head, but thought the half shave fit more with her character Cressida and her home in the Capitol.
"She comes from the Capitol, so she's got a stylized thing going on and now she's turned rebel. I think it's right for the character," Dormer told Entertainment Weekly in January when she debuted her new look at the SAG Awards.
Cressida's stylized look also included a tattoo of green vines that makeup artist Ve Neill applied to her buzzed head and neck. She received a fresh tattoo every day for filming.
"[It's] not always what you want to happen to you at 5 a.m., but it looked super cool," Dormer told E! News.
She even planned to keep it on after filming, but never made it off set with the tattoo still applied.
"I swore to everyone that I would because we finished filming in Berlin and I was like, 'I'm going to rock it in Berlin,'" Dormer said. "But I never got out. I never did. I missed an opportunity there...totally missed an opportunity, silly girl."
Dormer had never shaved her head before "Mockingjay." She looked (and touched) her boyfriend's clean-shaven head to get an idea of how her head would feel after the buzz.
"My man has his head shaved, so... I'd rub it and think, 'This is gonna be me!'" she told EW.
Dormer wears a wig for her role on "Game of Thrones," which is currently shooting its the fifth season. The HBO series returns in Spring 2015.
