NFL RUMORS: Philadelphia Eagles' Darren Sproles Suffers 'Slight' MCL Tear

According to a report, Philadelphia Eagles' running back Darren Sproles escaped major injury last night in the Eagles' victory over the New York Giants, and instead of missing the remainder of the season, will miss only "a few weeks" with a "slight" MCL tear.

Sproles injured his knee late in the third quarter while being tackled after a four-yard run. The diminutive Sproles was grabbed around the shoulders from behind and pulled backwards, twisting his leg under him.

Sproles went back to the locker room for examination and did not return.

Thus far this season, Sproles has rushed for 221 yards on 32 carries and three touchdowns. He had a 15-yard touchdown scamper last night.

He's averaging 6.6 yards per carry, the highest on the team. He's caught 16 passes for 198 yards, averaging 12.4 yards per reception. He also has an 82-yard punt return for a touchdown.

As he was leaving the locker room after the game, he was walking normally and told reporters, "I'll be alright."

The Eagles are currently on a bye, so it won't affect them this week, but Mosher's source says that Sproles' status for Philadelphia's next game, October 26 against the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, Arizona, is in doubt.

Current third-string running back Chris Polk has been sidelined recently with a hamstring injury, but told reporters that he would be ready in time for the trip to the desert.

In Sproles, Polk and McCoy's absence, the bulk of the workload as the Eagles were running out the clock last night went to undrafted free-agent tight end/special teamer/emergency running back and full back, Trey Burton.

The Eagles could sign bruising tailback Matthew Tucker off the practice squad if Polk and Sproles are unable to go for the Cardinals game.

The Eagles, already dealing with a plethora of offensive line injuries, can ill afford any further losses to that side of the ball.
