Ubisoft’s story trailer for “Assassin’s Creed: Rogue” brings familiar faces to the forefront of the franchise.
In the latest video, fans get to see how Shay Cormac was “betrayed” by his fellow Assassins, which leads him into Haytham Kenway, along with his Assassin brothers Adéwalé and Achilles.
“After a mission for the Brotherhood goes horribly wrong, Assassin Shay Patrick Cormac questions his allegiance to his order. But much like the Templars, the Assassins demand unflinching obedience,” according to UbiBlog.
“As a result of his shaken faith, the Assassins turn their backs on him and try to kill him. He is nursed back to health by a family and given their son’s old clothes – Templar robes.”
Cormac seeks to avenge the lives he’s taken to repay the ones who nursed him to health. Along the way, Cormac realizes he has faith in the Templar Order and believes they are the “right” side to be on during the tulmutous times.
“It’s not a case of I’m going to the dark side. It’s a case of I’m more aligned with their approach. The Templars and Assassins essentially want the same things, they just have very different ways of getting there,” “Rogue” Producer Karl van der Luhe told UbiBlog.
Though Cormac is seeking vengeance, what truly drives him are his feelings of grief and betrayal, according to UbiBlog. Cormac doesn’t want to kill his former Brotherhood members, but feels it’s the right thing to do after they’d taken so many lives.
“We wanted Shay to be a proper human being who understands the consequences of his actions,” Producer Ivan Balabanov told UbiBlog. “Killing comes with a heavy emotional price, especially when it comes to killing your former comrades. It is certainly not something Shay does with a light heart. You see him carry the weight of his actions.”
“Assassin’s Creed: Rogue” will be released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on Nov. 11 and early 2015 for the PC.
