Tiger Woods and girlfriend Lindsey Vonn, a gold medal-winning skier, have a relationship that seemingly works. She spoke to People magazine on Tuesday and explained why the two are compatible.
"We just are happy," she said. "We're similar. We're both at the top of our sports, and we relate really well to each other."
Their relationship makes sense. Woods is arguably one of the greatest golfers ever, and Vonn is a successful skier with an Olympic gold medal and four World Cup titles. They both are competitive and can likely relate to each other's devotion to their respective sport. To be at the top of their sport means putting in long hours of training, which they both seem to manage well.
Woods, 37, is back at the top of his sport. With the exception of an uncharacteristically poor outing at last weekend's Memorial Tournament, he's played incredible as of late ̶ he's already won four tournaments this season. His return to the top encouraged Nike to sign him to a new endorsement deal, which is expected to earn him at least $20 million per year when completed.
Television host Jimmy Kimmel found the opportunity during his show Tuesday night to roast the new Nike deal, USA Today reports. Kimmel made parody of what Woods' next Nike commercial will be.
The PGA Tour's U.S. Open starts on June 13. Both Woods and Sergio Garcia are participating, where Woods looks to win his fourth U.S. Open title.
*UPDATE (6/6/13): Incorrectly stated Woods won four major events this season. Changed to "four tournaments." Clarification on worth of new Nike contract: Official numbers haven't been released, but ESPN estimates his last deal was worth more than $20 million per year.
