Laura Vandervoort has some advice for the next actress lucky enough to get cast in the upcoming CBS “Supergirl” television series.
During an interview with IGN at New York Comic Con 2014, Vandervoort was in attendance to promote her “Bitten” show, in which she plays werewolf named Elena Michaels.
“I just go for the women that are strong and can take care of themselves, so sci-fi sort of lends a hand to that,” Vandervoot said.
The actress didn’t expect she’d forever be associated with Supergirl after being cast as Kara in “Smallville”, but welcomes the attention from it at the big comic conventions.
“You never with your career what’s going to happen. When I was cast in ‘Smallville’, that was awesome and a great start for me as Supergirl and it’s an iconic superhero. Playing her, I really had to fill some shoes that people had specific ideas on how she should come across and I think people were happy with that,” Vandervoort said.
When news spread of the “Supergirl” TV show, many fans asked Vandervoort if she would be reprising her role once again.
“I saw a lot of Twitter comments when that was happening. People wanted me to play Supergirl and, you know, I don’t know what their plan is for it. I wish them well and maybe I can show up on it at some point,” the actress told IGN.
However, Vandervoort does have advice for the new Supergirl once she puts on the red boots.
“Make sure you have some Nike soles in there so you can run,” Vandervoort said. “Just make it your own. Everyone has an idea about how she should be, which I was concerned about her when I played her. But when you find a way to relate to her then bring in your own self into it I think people appreciate. You can’t make everything the same, so make it your own.”
