The Generation Y nostalgia continues, but this time, the older millennials can reminisce over their childhood favorites "Care Bears" and "Rainbow Brite."
Netflix will revitalize the "Care Bears" franchise with its new series "Care Bears and Cousins." The title opens the possibility for the teddy bear favorites to return with their fellow stuffed-animal cousins. The first season will premiere in early 2016, according to CNN Money.
Netflix launched its first original children series, "Turbo: FAST," last year. It will also reboot franchises like "The Magic School Bus 360" and "Popples."
Feeln, a family video-streaming service by Hallmark, will reboot "Rainbow Brite" next month, according to E! News. Emily Osment will voice the title character, a young girl with magic powers who has to save Rainbowland from The Dark Princess, voiced by Molly Ringwald.
"Being cast as the voice of Rainbow Brite for the relaunch of this iconic show is truly an honor," Osment said in a statement. "I look forward to connecting with the audience, old and new, and going on this exciting adventure together."
Both children's franchises were launched by greeting card companies in the early 1980s. American Greetings created the "Care Bears" to use on greeting cards in 1981. Kenner, an American toy company, turned them into teddy bears in 1983 and the multi-colored bears then started appearing in their own TV specials.
Hallmark Cards created Rainbow Brite as a program aimed at young girls during Saturday morning cartoons in 1983. Mattel distributed the dolls, toys and other merchandise from the franchise.
