An exclusive designer bag from Paris that is rocked by celebrities, such as Kim Kardashian and Victoria Beckham, are being returned because they smell - really, really bad.
Hermès is one of the most luxurious designer bags with some styles costing over $20,000. They are distributed to boutiques in small quantities and are often on back or special order, keeping up with their exclusive stigma, reports Page Six.
When the bags sit in the sun for too long they develop a strong odor, which is making customers who dropped thousands to finally get the exclusive bag furious. Customers are complaining about the defective bags on online forums comparing the odor to skunk or weed.
"After riding in the car with her for about 30 minutes, I smelled what I thought was a dead skunk," one customer wrote in a forum on PurseBlog. "Another 30 minutes later I could still smell the dead skunk, and I thought it was odd, but never imagined it could be my bag. I keep (it) in an armoire . . . When I opened the cabinet door this morning, the smell hit me, and I immediately knew it was the bag."
Most of the complaints are on the Birkin bag, which is named after actress Jane Birkin. Some styles of the Kelly bag and the Elan clutch are reportedly smelling in the heat as well.
Hermès is supposedly taking the bags back to have the bad-smelling leather removed and the entire bag rebuilt, reports Page Six, although the French designer didn't officially make a comment.
