Mysterious Sea Creature Caught Near Singapore

A bizarre mystery sea creature baffaled a fisherman after he caught an orgainism with at least 100 tentacles off the coast of Singapore.

"I've had quite a few odd things from come out of the ocean but I have never seen anything like this before in my life. It had all these arms waving around," Ong Han Boon, 54, tells The Mirror.

He was settled down getting ready to relax with his favorite beer and catch some lunch at his favorite spot to fish when something caught his line that "looked like an alien or some kind of mutant," he explains to The Mirror.

Curious and looking to learn more about the creature, Boon took a video of his catch and posted it to YouTube.

The creature Boon caught was a Basket Star, which is a relative of the starfish, and it was swimming fairly far out of it's usual habitat.

Basket Stars are typically found along the Pacific coast from the Bering Sea to southern California, according to Oregon State University. They can swim over 6,500-feet below sea level, but they most commonly hang out in the mud and sand that surrounds large boulders.

The Basket Star uses its abundance of arms to catch its prey - usually zooplankton - forming a knot around its body. Their arms are typically four-to-five-times longer than their body.
