Warner Bros. has confirmed their worst kept secret: Jason Momoa is the new Aquaman.
The “Game of Thrones” actor has been denying his connection to the “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” production since rumors of his casting surfaced back in May.
Momoa attended the Detroit's Motor City Comic Con in May where he was a guest speaker on a "Game of Thrones" panel. Momoa was “annoyed” by the “bad” Aquaman rumors and wanted the press to stop asking him about it.
"What does everything tell you? No. Stop asking me. It's so annoying. Sorry, you're not annoying," Momoa told the panel crowd when asked about “Batman vs. Superman”. "Oh you're the press? Get the f*** out of here. Here, put this in there - you're a d***, you're a d***. [Allowing the audience to laugh] You're not a d***, I'm just playing. You know what, I think it started when people said 'What superhero would you play?'
"And I'd say Batman and Superman, they'd be awesome together. Then people were like, 'He's in Batman vs. Superman!' I'm like, I really like Lobo. 'HE'S LOBO!!' And then some a**hole was like 'He's Aquaman! And I'm like - what did you just call me? Where the f*** do you pull out Aquaman? Seriously... And then it shows up on the Internet. Not that it's a bad rumour."
However, multiple publications continued to quote inside sources claiming Momoa was cast in the film. It didn’t help Momoa stopped commenting on the rumors and dodges “Batman vs. Superman” related questions.
During a more recent interview, Entertainment Weekly asked Momoa if he would be playing Aquaman in “Batman vs. Superman”.
“Well, I’m really excited for it [Batman vs. Superman] to come out in 2016, I’ll tell you that much,” Momoa said. “I’m really excited to see what is happening in that world.”
Finally, Momoa has released a statement regarding his casting on his official Instagram account. Momoa thanked his fans for congratulating him, and said he was off to Miami to celebrate. It is likely Momoa will make an appearance in "Batman vs. Superman", but Warner Bros. hasn't confirmed or denied he's in the film.
“Aloha to all my fans friends and family If u don't know Know u know. This kanaka maoli Is aquaman. Cheeehoooiooo,” he wrote.
“Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” will be released on March 25, 2016. “Aquaman”, starring Jason Momoa, is slated to hit theaters some time in 2018.
