Liberia needs almost 80,000 more body bags for dead Ebola victims, among other supplies, to battle the largest documented Ebola outbreak in world history.
The Liberian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MOHSW) are projecting they will need 84,841 body bags over the next six months if the Ebola virus continues to spread at its current rate. This makes the country fall 79,940 bags short.
The country of Liberia alone had 4,249 cases and 2,458 deaths, according to today's situation report from the World Health Organization.
"Evidence obtained from responders and laboratory staff in the country suggests that the situation in Liberia is getting worse," WHO said in their Ebola situation report today.
In addition to body bags, Liberia is also drastically falling short on other essential supplies such as hooded overall protective suits, examination gloves, face masks and goggles, among other supplies, reports MOHSW.
If Liberia is going to have a chance at surviving they are going to need help from other countries.
During Liberia's 2013-2014 fiscal year only $11 million was allotted for national health care, reports Mother Jones. The entire national budget was $553 million.
In August the government relooked at the budget and upped the health care portion to $20 million, which still isn't enough, Mother Jones reported.
The United Nations saw that the country needs serious financial help and asked the rest of the world to pitch in and give Liberia a cumulative $1 billion to fight the Ebola epidemic. On Friday Reuters reported that the UN only reached 25 percent of their goal so far.
