Selena Gomez: Sick of Getting ‘Picked On By Grown-Ups’

Selena Gomez is tried of the haters.

As a celebrity, the 21-year-old former Disney darling is often subjected to criticism online - especially over her on again/off again relationship with Justin Bieber, but Gomez said she doesn't understand why adults choose to partake in the online abuse and bullying.

"I get picked on by grown adults all the time," Gomez told E! News this week while promoting her new film, "Rudderless." "It's grown-ups and I don't get it. It just baffles me. I wish I could just sit them down and say, 'What were you doing at 15? What were you doing at 18? What were you doing at 21?' Because I can guarantee you it's not half of what I've done."

She added: "Trust me, it's hard. I've had my moments where I've let them get to me but I refuse to let them win."

Gomez, who has 23.7 million followers on Twitter, 16 million on Instagram and 64 million fans on Facebook, said she has no plans to leave social media behind.

"Maybe when I'm older, but I think right now I want to be that person for those girls and for my fans. It's nice to be able to connect with my fans. I'm a part of it. I'm totally involved," she confessed.

The actress said in an interview that she views the past 12 months of her life as a vital growing period and opens up about not being able to handle fame.

"It's been such a transitional year for me - I moved out of my parents' house this year and into my own place," Gomez said. "I also took my first break ever and have been using the time to really concentrate on what makes me happy. Sometimes, I'll be honest don't handle all of this as well as people think, so it's been important to really figure out what makes me feel grounded."
