The Duggar family has a lot of strong views, which oftentimes land it in hot water. Regardless, the stars of TLC's "19 Kids & Counting" don't shy away from giving their opinions on some of the most controversial topics like abortion, pre-marital sex and birth control.
According to In Touch magazine, during a recent interview at the 2014 Value Voters Summit, patriarch Jim Bob Duggar dropped a bombshell about his wife, Michelle Duggar, but also managed to stir up a bit of drama. While talking to "The Friddie Show" to discuss his pro-life views, Jim Bob revealed that Michelle was once on birth control. He also said he believes the pills caused her miscarriage, something he equates to abortion.
Jim Bob explained that Michelle was on birth control after their first child, Josh, was born and the pills caused her body to "abort" what would have been their second baby.
"When Michelle and I first got married, we got married pretty young. She was 17, I was 19, and we thought we weren't ready for children right away. So she went on the birth control pill, and was on that until about three and a half years into our marriage, and then... she ended up going off the pill. We had our son, Josh. Then she went back on the pill," he said. "And then something we didn't know is that the pill can allow women to get pregnant, but then it can be aborted."
"That's what happened with Michelle... She went on the pill after Josh and then got pregnant, and then the pill actually caused a miscarriage, and so that was really when we started examining this," he continued. "We started looking at the fine print of the contraception, and it said this could happen, and then we talked to a Christian doctor, and he explained this to us."
Jim Bob said he and his wife looked up Bible passages about children and realized that they wanted to have as many kids as God would bless them with. Their daughter Jessa Duggar - who's engaged to Ben Seewald - recently came under fire when she compared the Holocaust to abortion.
The 21-year-old told her Instagram followers that she had just visited the Holocaust Museum and it was a "very sobering" experience.
"Millions of innocents denied the most basic fundamental of all rights-their right to life... May we never sit idly by and allow such an atrocity to happen again. Not this generation. We must be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. Because EVERY LIFE IS PRECIOUS. #ProLife," she wrote.
Her mother Michelle also shared similar sentiments after a visit to the museum a few years ago.
"A couple of weeks after we went to the Holocaust Museum it dawned on us that there is a holocaust taking place right here in America! More than 56 million lives have been destroyed in our country! That is over 4,000 babies being killed and 4,000 women being wounded each day!" she wrote on her blog.
