Advances in smartwatch technology continue with the introduction of .klatz, a watch that works as a phone.
The device doesn't appear as a watch face with a flexible strap like other smartwatches do, and instead comes in the form of a stiff aluminum bracelet, according to CNET. The watch works with iPhones and Android phones, and is expected to work with Windows Phone as well in the future.
Owners can use .klatz as a phone by flipping it open and holding it to their ear to talk to whoever is calling them. Extra abilities that come with the watch include controlling music, receiving message notifications and tracking their activity.
Alerts for phone calls is a rare feature found in smartwatches, despite these devices already possessing other unique abilities like showing notifications for emails and text messages, showing the time, and tracking steps taken, calories burnt, distance ran, and other factors of fitness, Ubergizmo reported.
The owner must have a phone that comes with a Bluetooth 2.1 standard in order to use it with the watch. The watch also features a 600-1,200mAh battery, which its creators promise can last for 10 days before needing to be recharged.
.klatz's battery life is greater than that of competitors, such as the Motorola Moto 360, the Samsung Gear 2, the LG G Watch, and the Pebble, CNET reported. While the watch isn't waterproof, it is able to withstand dust and splashes.
The Ukrainian startup that created .klatz has started an Indiegogo campaign to raise $140,000 in funding for the watch. A single unit is available for $99 in black or red, and backers have the option to buy more than one watch. Backers will have to wait until March next year to receive their new watches.
