It's been three days since the nominees for this year's American Music Awards were announced Oct. 13. And there is still a buzz in the music world about newcomer of the year, Iggy Azalea, racking up the most nominations: six. Right behind her are established stars Katy Perry, Pharrell and John Legend, each earning five nominations.
Azalea - the "Fancy" singer - is one of the biggest breakout stars of 2014, and her night at the ceremony may prove to be a great one. The rapper/singer is up for Artist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Single of the Year, and several specialized categories, which interestingly call her a pop/rock artist, but put her album in the rap/hip-hop slot, reports Forbes.
Up for Artist of the Year at the fan-voted awards show is Azalea, Legend, Perry, Lorde, Pharrell, Beyonce, Luke Bryan, Eminem, Imagine Dragons and One Direction. The 10 nominees will downsize to five after calculating fan votes received through Nov. 13, according to ABC.com.
"Boom Clap" singer Charli XCX will perform at the 2014 AMAs.
Winners will be announced on Nov. 23, when the awards will air on ABC and stream live from Yahoo, the AMAs' website and ABC.com. The 42nd annual American Music Awards will be broadcast live from the NOKIA Theatre L.A.
"Boom Clap" singer Charli XCX will perform at the 2014 AMAs, to air live on ABC.
Voting is now open, and can be done by anybody, making the AMAs more of a popularity contest than a celebration of the best music made in the past year, notes Forbes. The awards have their own voting site, or fans can tweet their vote once a day by using the hashtag "#AMAs" and then including the names of both the nominee and the category.
