Lucasfilm and Disney are planning six “Star Wars” films within the next 10 years.
ILM President and General Manager Lynwen Brennan confirmed the studio is preparing for future films and is excited for the release of “Star Wars: Episode VII,” according to Digital Spy.
"At least six Star Wars films are on the way that means we can plan our technical advancements and production capacity needed over a ten-year period," ILM President and General Manager Lynwen Brennan told Digital Spy.
Chancellor George Osborne also spoke to Digital Spy, adding, "I was very keen to see Star Wars as another step in the exciting journey that British film production is undertaking at the moment. That movie was so seminal to our childhoods and I was very fortunate to visit the set at Pinewood and see Star Wars being filmed.”
Osborne said he felt the nostalgia from visiting the Pinewood set where J.J. Abrams is currently working on “Star Wars: Episode VII,” which is expected to wrap up filming by November.
"When you see all these characters from your childhood reinvented for another generation, it was really spine-tingling,” he said. “You realize how things like the X-wing fighter are just part of the cultural heritage for my generation. It's fantastic that that's being carried on."
“Star Wars Episode: VII” is set after “Return of the Jedi,” marking the return of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Leia about 30 years after the final film debuted.
Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Kenny Baker and Peter Mayhew are returning for the film. The production also cast John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson and Lupita Nyong'o as the new faces of the franchise.
“Star Wars: Episode VII” is set to hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.
