ABC may have cancelled "Twin Peaks" in 1991, but the characters' lives went on and all will be revealed in a new book by co-creator Mark Frost.
The "Secret Lives of Twin Peaks" will detail what happened to each character living in that peculiar town over the last 25 years. Flatiron Books, a division of Macmillan, will publish the book late next year right before Showtime reboots the series in 2016.
"This has long been a dream project of mine that will bring a whole other aspect of the world of Twin Peaks to life, for old fans and new. I couldn't be more thrilled," Frost said in a statement.
Publishing companies in the United Kingdom, Finland, Italy, Germany and Brazil have picked up the book, too.
The book "offers a deeper glimpse into the central mystery that was only touched on by the original series" according to Macmillan. The mystery went unsolved due the show's abrupt cancellation at the end of Season Two.
Co-creators Mark Frost and David Lynch will start production next year and Showtime will premiere the nine-episode series in 2016, according to Deadline. Frost and Lynch will write and produce every episode and Lynch will handle all directorial responsibilities.
"Twin Peaks" ended on a cliffhanger in 1991 as an attempt to save the show from cancellation and FBI Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) became possessed by demonic rapist. The reboot will begin in present day.
"It is not a remake. The story continues. The seeds of where we go were planted where we've been," Frost told TVLine.
Showtime has made no casting announcements yet.
