Sadly, it's now been confirmed that the body of a young woman found along the river in suburban Seattle is that of actress Misty Upham. Earlier Thursday evening (Oct. 16), a search team went out looking for the missing 32-year-old actress when they discovered a body at the bottom of a steep embankment near White River.
At first it was reported that authorities had not officially identified the body, but family sources confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that it was Misty.
"We waited at the site where the team found the body," Misty's uncle Robert Upham said. "It took about five-and-a-half hours to confirm. Then we gathered around her body to say prayers and now we're all gathered at the church."
An official cause of death has not been revealed but there's been speculation that she may have died from suicide. According to TMZ, the search team that discovered Misty's body was made up of her close friends and family as well as members of the Native American community.
The "August: Osage County" actress was last seen Oct. 5 leaving her sister's Muckleshoot, Wash. apartment. Her father, Charles Upham, reported her missing the following day after she failed to contact family members.
On Monday, Oct. 13, Charles told The Hollywood Reporter that his daughter had been suffering from a medical condition and was also battling depression.
"She had recently changed her medication, so she was sort of having erratic behavior. She told me and her mom that we didn't have to worry about her anymore... I thought it sounded suicidal myself, so I called the police," he said. "She used to make [suicidal] threats sometimes, but she never went through with it."
It was later revealed that the "Django Unchained" star was bipolar and had stopped taking her medication at the time of her disappearance, according to THR. Even though Charles had initially said that he thought Misty may have been suicidal, he changed his tune Thursday night.
"The family has stated that, after seeing the body, they still do not feel that Misty Upham committed suicide," he said.
Many celebrities have already taken to Twitter to express their grief over the loss.
