'IT Crowd' Remake Coming to American TV (VIDEO)

Deadline reports that NBC has committed to producing an American version of the "IT Crowd," the first time this has happened since the last time it happened back in 2007. The project has been placed in the hands of remake specialist Bill Lawrence, producer of the upcoming "Rush Hour" TV series, who will hopefully avoid the temptation to produce a crossover event where a mismatched duo of cops teams up to solve the murder of Douglas Reynholm's wife. The network has given the remake a pilot commitment, meaning that at the very least they'll shoot a pilot.

The "IT Crowd" is a workplace comedy about two IT nerds, Moss and Roy, stuck in the basement of a major corporation who know nothing about how to interact with people, and their newly installed, ambitious female manager, Jen, who knows zero about computers and technology.

The original "IT Crowd," which starred Chris O'Dowd (Roy), Richard Ayoade (Moss), and Katherine Parkinson (Jen), premiered on Channel 4 in 2006 and ran for four seasons, plus a special. It earned a best comedy BAFTA, International Emmy and Golden Rose awards.

The first Americanized "IT Crowd," starring original series star Richard Ayoade and a pre-Community Joel McHale, never made it past the pilot stage, but perhaps NBC turning it off and on again will help.

The pilot for the unfunny, failed US version is below. Watch it at your own peril...
