Country music stars Toby Keith and Vince Gill have been nominated for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in the Performing Songwriters category, along with Elvis Costello, Gloria Estefan, Cyndi Lauper, Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson of Heart, and Steve Winwood, among others, reports The Boot.
The Songwriters Hall of Fame honors composers and lyricists whose work has had an impact around the world. It's members include Burt Bacharach, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Eric Clapton, Carole King, Garth Brooks, Jim Croce, Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Stevie Wonder, and many other talented artists, according to Hudson Valley Country.
Nominees in the Non-Performing Songwriters category include Bobby Braddock, who wrote George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today" and Billy Currington's "People Are Crazy," and Bob McDill, who wrote Alan Jackson's "Gone Country" and Alabama's "Song of the South."
Members will have the opportunity to vote on the inductees until Dec. 15. Each member can name three nominees from the non-performing category and two from the performing category.
The inductees will be announced following the vote, and they'll be honored at the 2015 Songwriters Hall of Fame Awards Gala on Thursday, June 18, at the New York Marriott Marquis.
