War Machine Attempts Suicide In Jail

Mixed martial arts War Machine, who is accused of beating his ex - girlfriend Christy Mack, tried to hang himself in a Las Vegas jail cell, CNN reported on Friday.

War Machine, whose real name is Jonathan Koppenhaver, allegedly beat Mack and a male friend at Mack's home on Aug. 8 before running from authorities. He was caught by police a week later in Simi Valley, Calif.

A corrections officer conducting rounds at the Clark County Detention Center where Koppenhaver is being held found him unresponsive on Tuesday. He was sitting on the floor of the cell, with his feet on a bunk bed and a torn piece of clothes linen tied around his neck, TMZ reported.

The officer cut the linen when they realized his face was purple, and Koppenhaver's breathing resumed and he tried to speak. He was later put on suicide watch in an isolated medical cell. The fighter is said to have left a suicide note, but details have not yet emerged.

He is facing an array of charges, including attempted murder and domestic battery.

Mack suffered 18 broken bones, a broken nose, missing teeth, a fractured rib and a punctured rib following the assault. Koppenhaver said he wanted to surprise Mack with an engagement ring when he found another man with her at Mack's home in Las Vegas.

"I only wish that man hadn't been there and that Christy & I would be happily engaged," he tweeted shortly after the incident in August. "I don't know y [sic] I'm so cursed. One day truth will come out."
