Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay returned from his six-game suspension this week and immediately met with general manager Ryan Grigson and coach Chuck Pagano to discuss the Colts roster.
Perhaps looking for a mid-season boost, Indianapolis could be active players as the NFL's trade deadline approaches.
"Obviously we're taking it a game at a time, but this week Ryan and Chuck and I met and talked about anything we can do before the trade deadline (or) past the trade deadline in terms of having some young, ascending players who might be able to help us. . . and do whatever we can to get that edge," Irsay said, according to the Indianapolis Star.
"Obviously health is going to play a big role in how we move forward. If we can stay relatively healthy, I think this team really has something special. That's what I'm focused on. It's exciting to see."
The NFL trade deadline is 4 p.m. ET on Oct. 28. While the NFL rarely sees blockbuster trades, the Colts do have a history of splashy mid-season acquisitions. The team traded a first-round pick for running back Trent Richardson early last season.
Buffalo Bills receiver Mike Williams has requested a trade after being a healthy scratch in the team's game last week. Bills running back Bryce Brown has also expressed frustration with his lack of playing time while C.J. Spiller has been largely ineffective this season. Other possible names on the trading block could include Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh who is a free agent after the season and has hinted at a potential relocation to New York next year.
The Colts currently sit atop the AFC South standings at 4-2. They have the league's No. 1 ranked passing offense thanks to an MVP-caliber start to the season by quarterback Andrew Luck. The team will host the Cincinnati Bengals (3-1-1) this weekend.
