Florida Dad Kills Kids Then Himself After Argument With Wife, Police Say

A Florida man murdered two of his children and then killed himself in yet another horrific murder-suicide to hit the state in just a month.

The Volusia County Sheriff's office arrived at a home in Port Orange, south of Daytona Beach, after receiving reports of an incident at around 5:11 a.m. Friday, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

An 11-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl were found dead along with an unidentified man, Volusia County Sheriff Ben Johnson told the newspaper. Another child, a 9-year-old girl, was critically injured from a gunshot wound and was taken to an Orlando hospital.

Investigators learned the man shot his three children and then killed himself following an argument with his wife.

At one point the argument intensified and the husband reached for his gun, causing the wife to flee the Jackson Lane home to a neighbor's house for help.

"She said her husband had threatened her with a gun," Volusia County Officer Gary Davidson told the New York Daily News.

The shootings reportedly happened after police were called to the scene. The wife was not harmed, Davidson told the Tampa Bay Times.

The incident comes almost exactly a month after a man shot and killed his six grandchildren and his daughter before committing suicide in the rural Florida town of Bell.

Don Spirit called 911 on Sept. 18 saying he shot his family and was going to kill himself, which he did when Gilchrist County cops arrived at his home. Reports later revealed that Spirit, who was previously convicted for accidentally killing another son, had been subjected to numerous investigations by child protective services for abuse and neglect.
